Creating a personal brand takes effort

There are six components that are crucial to create a consistent and authentic brand.

1.     Brand Story

3.     Typography

4.     Tone of Voice

First, your brand needs a direction, a guide, or a silver lining it can steer towards. This is usually done by Vision & Mission statements. Your vision is the optimal state of your brand in the future and represents it together with your mission, reflected in the heart of your company. It is crucial to have a Vision and Mission statement to serve yourself consistently.

Second, colors can influence people’s perception of a brand. Therefore, choose your colors according to the emotions your brand shall instill and keep in mind that colors can become a brands dress. Once you have selected your colors, avoid changing them since it helps to stay consistent.

Third, the Typography scheme is something your target audience is always confronted with. You want to execute a design t‍‍‍hat supports your brand and helps your audience to separate your brand from others. But don’t think about the font, consider the spacing and sizes for headlines, main-body text, or quotes for example.

Fourth, you should also make sure that the visual aspect goes together with your tone of voice. This is often the most underrated step within personal branding.  Think about how you want to approach to your target audience. Are you appealing them directly or indirectly, is your tone of voice formal or informal, and which words are gos or no-gos within your branding language

Fifth, you may have decided about your logo but did you select how it will appear in several environments or channels?

Sixth, like the logo, the images should have uniform sizes and forms. Choose between photography, icons, and cartoons, and try to keep the color-scheme consistent.

First, you have to consider the Core value of your brand.

  • Who are you?
  • What is your unique selling proposition?
  • What separates you from others?

Ranging from to-tier academics, thought leaders and entrepreneurs down to fitness bloggers or book reviewers. Even if there isn't a website you can relate to yourself, or that is appealing to you, you can still derive a benefit from their presentation and use them as examples.

While using the internet each person leaves a trace of digital footprints on the web. For instance, we casually share our music choice via Spotify, our consumer behavior on Amazon as well as our social and work-related network through applications such as Facebook, LinkedIn or Xing on the web.
